Curriculum

Please see the curriculum plans (below) to see the topics and subjects covered in each year group.

Look in the Children's Planet > Class Pages for the curriculum newsletter sent each half term which details the content of each subject taught during the half term.

Please also see each subject heading for an overview of each National Curriculum area.

At Briar Hill we teach a different topic each half term. Each topic ensures that subjects are linked and we follow a creative curriculum to teach subjects in an engaging and fun way. We ensure that all children make progress with an emphasis on focused teaching to meet their individual needs.

All classes are mixed ability and learning is planned at the appropriate level for each child. Learning is planned to allow children to learn through play based activities that happen both within the classroom and outside. Each classroom has a role play area.

National Curriculum 2014 subjects that the children are taught include:
  • English (reading, writing, speaking and listening)
  • Maths (Number, shape, space and measure, data handling)
  • Science
  • Computing
  • History
  • Geography
  • Design and Technology
  • Art
  • Music
  • Physical Education
Non  National Curriculum subjects we teach are Religious Education and Personal, Social and Health Education (PHSE).
